Happy New Year! We are excited that we were able to begin the year on this day of mysteries AND Isan. One of the reasons that I did not do an Odu Ifa for the year is because I knew Isan fell on today.
The Wisdom of Ifa that we received as a community should be carried through the year in conjunction with the World Ifa Odu, and our upcoming Odunfa casting (Week of February 21) for Temple Otuurupon Gunda.
If you are reading this in the Sacred Grove Blog, it is only a brief summary of the verses within the Odu and a little commentary.
The Full Divination is only available for community members.
Ifa spoke to us today through the Holy Odu Ifa Ose Obara. Ose Obara comes to us in Ire through the Holy Odu Oyeku Meji.
Our primary Ire at this time is Longevity.
Ose Obara
Abundance provides the opportunity for inner transformation.
Must follow Ifa’s directions to end indecision
Be good to women to prevent blessings being blocked
We are the architects of our own misfortune
Change in behavior called for
Itans
Only do what you are to do
No mortar carver can carve a calabash pot
Ifa’s message for Ose
Their offspring in Ilogbo Land
No bead maker can fashion a guinea corn
Ifa’s message for Obara
Their offspring in Ilogbo land
The housefly is it that wakes up and rubs its hands gingerly together
Ifa’s message for Ajapa, the tortoise
Who was the friend of Obara
He was advised to offer ebo
Ose filled an elephant in the forest in Ilogbo
And Olobara killed a big ram in Ilogbo
Indecision turned the road into two for Ajapa
Which way would i take out of the two
Only take on what you can handle
Ajapa consulted Ifa to marry two women. One was Erinmogun’s daughter and the other was Erinmogbon’s daughter.
Ifa said he could marry and they would have many children. He was advised to give an offering for them to have children. He was also advised to give another offering for himself because he would undergo a trial that would cost money and wisdom to overcome it. Ajapa complied.
One day they received word that the king Erinmogun had died. Ajapa gave money to his wives to purchase what they need for the burial.
When they came back fro the market, a messenger had arrived to tell them that Erinmogbon had also died. Everyone was amazed. Ajapa again gave them money to go buy what was needed for the burial.
Ajapa’s relatives gathered at his home. He advised the family to split evenly to follow his two wives. He also called 3 sets of drummers; one for each wife and one for himself.
They all begin to head to out. When they get to the crossroad they need to turn left to go to Erinmogu and right to got to Erinmogbon. The wives are looking at Ajapa to see which way he is going to go. He quickly announces he’s going to dance at the junction.
So each wife begins to go to her father’s burial.
Once everyone is gone, Ajapa begins to go back and forth between each town. He goes Erinmogun’s burial and greets everyone. As they begin to lower the body, he runs to the town of Erinmogbun and greet everyone.
He does this several times, ensuring that he is seen by someone and his drums are heard.
When the wives start to complain about his absence, they are told that he was in fact there.
Ajapa is able to make each dinner successfully.
He goes to his home that evening and celebrates.
When you are in alignment, stick to it
Orunmilla consulted Ifa when he was in the midst of poverty to know if he could be comfortable. He was told to give an ebo at the dunghill 6 different times. Orunmilla complied. He takes the offering day one. On day two there’s a hen digging the earth and cowry shells are showing. On the third time, even more were visible. He covered them up with earth. He returned the remaining 3 times and waited. After the last one he watches the dunghill til evening.
In the evening he dug the spot and found a lot of cowries. He took them to his house without knowing how they got there. Orunmilla thus became rich.
