Self Care is Individual

I was listening to a creator say that what we call “self-care” is really “Self-Maintenance”. That self-care should be nourishing and not just something that we do for maintenance.
Of course I needed to look up the word care. It sounded profound, but I wanted to be sure.
Define Care
Care is defined as, per Merriam Webster:
· Suffering of mind
· Uncertainty, apprehension, and responsibility
· Watchful attention
· Maintenance
· Regard coming from desire or esteem
Based on the way that we use the phrase I would say self-care is, in fact, self-maintenance. It is also self-responsibility and self-regard.
Reminder of Self
Self is what makes you unique or different from someone else.
Putting it together
Self-Care to me would be the:
Unique way that you take responsibility for yourself, as well as how you maintain yourself.
Thoughts..
Based on this and what the creator was discussing, there is a need to reevaluate how we do self-care. Many of do the societal standards of self-care without knowing the “self” part of the equation. What are the things that “I” or “you” need in order to maintain a sense of wellness?
Are there certain activities that specifically bring a feeling of balance, equilibrium, or peace?
I know what societal things I have enjoyed, but only after pondering this did, I even consider the question.
“What are the things my Ori chose prenatally that would be means of “self-care”?”
What I learned about myself
There isn’t much you can’t learn from your blueprints:
· Odu
· Astrology
· Numerology
· Human Design
· Tarot – Specifically your Birthday Cards
· *Gene Keys may have insight, I didn’t check that one yet
In looking at my various blueprints, I learned some interesting things just looking at some of the key placements. Much I believe I knew, some was told to me via various divination.
· Journaling isn’t just a habit that I’m trying to develop, it’s actually energetic medicine for me.
· Rearranging my house over and over is actually a form of energetic maintenance
· I need moments of solitude or I will burn out
· Knowing what to share and what to keep to myself
· Trusting my intuition around all manner of things
· Creative outlets
· Dance and sensual movement helps me empty my mind
When I initiated one of the things my godmother told me was that my Ori required silent retreats. I realize sometimes when I’m in the car alone I go between dancing while driving or simply having nothing turned on. Yesterday was a day of just quiet introspection while I was driving.
What do I intend to do with this insight?
Is this going to be just information or will it become knowledge that I cultivate into wisdom. With things being how they are, I’m definitely going to make space to care for myself better.
· I started journaling about my day, my thoughts and feelings again. I’m going to make sure I stay devoted to this practice as it truly has helped me release.
· I am going to schedule a day of rest where I can just be. I tend to be an overgiver. Building days of rest is sacred to me.
· Create for fun. This one is going to be a challenge but I am going to endeavor to allow some creations to be for me, even if they end up being a blessing to others later in the future.
· Vacations. More than just 1 day. Time away from everyone that is just for me to unwind.
Even as an Iyanifa, I am at my best when I’m balanced, healthy, and feeling well nourished. The more I do this for myself, the more my community can learn to do the same.
Self-care that is truly aligned to our energetic blueprint is how we quietly rise above oppression and take care of our sacred selves.
