A word from Baba

Eku ojo Ogun Irentegbe Temple and Aborisha family. Today is the day of worship for the Pathfinders, Ogun and Ochosi.

So, a king had died leaving behind his two sons. The king makers stepped forward to find which would be installed as the new king. The eldest was of course, the king apparent. Both brothers consulted Ifá after the funeral rights of their father and they were advised to offer ebo to Esú. The eldest was also advised to prepare himself to be installed as king. As the younger son prepared the ebo materials to be given to Esú, the elder son began to prepare the festival for his coronation.

The following day, the festivities had begun. Everyone had gathered to see the new King be seated upon the throne. This is when Esú went to work. The drums were going and the oti was flowing. The elder brother was extremely happy to be becoming the new king. Esú began to speak to him cheeringly. He reminded him that he was well liked by everyone. Told him that all were excited to see him become their King. Told him that everyone loved to see him dance and everyone would always get excited when he would turn the flips. The soon-to-be King began to dance. Faster and faster. He began to twirl and he he prepared to perform his signature backflip. As the Prince was in mid-air, Esú blinked his eyes, causing him to fall and not stick the landing. He broke both his legs in the fall. The game makers determined that a man in that condition was not fit to serve as King and so, the younger brother was then installed.

How soon is too soon to celebrate a victory? We have to be careful that we do not begin celebrating too early as to not spoil our winnings. And of course, as always, secure the bag, do the ebo! What are some other lessons you hear within the story?
