Alaafia everyone!! My name is J’Vonnie Williamson and I am newest and the youngest ( not including the littles) to be a member of the tribe. I just recently graduated from College and High School and am looking forward to opening this next chapter of my life learning the spiritual practices and way of life of ifa. I’ve been in the loop over the last few months but have been focused on finishing my senior year strong which I can proudly has come to an end. Last time me and Iya spoke I opened up to her and shared that I had a hard time vocalizing my accomplishments. She gave me an assignment to share with you guys two things that I achieved:
My beautiful teacher Mrs. Simpkins (yes your dear sister is- was my teacher) chose me so read a poetry piece I wrote during my High School graduation ceremony. I was so nervous.. but I did it!! 😆
Making the effort to accept the parts of me that are soght out to me “wrong” in the world we live in today. Learning to embrace that I am a Afro American woman that Identifies as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and just so happens to not be Christian. I’ve spent years choking on those words and for me to finally make a open statement about it lets me know that I’m making progress.
Thank you Iya for the patience and kindness that’s you’ve shown me… and I want to give a welcoming hello to all of you, my new sisters!! 🤍
Welcome J’Vonnie! You did a phenomenal job at graduation - never would’ve guessed you were nervous 😊
